Getting help

Email home@tenonfold.com. We answer within two working days, usually the same day.

By post: Tenonfold, Design Matrix Studio LLC, 418 Broadway, Ste R, Albany, NY 12207, United States. Email is faster for anything about the app.

If something went wrong, these four things turn a long exchange into a short one:

  • Which phone and which version of iOS or Android.
  • What you were doing, in the order you did it.
  • What you expected, and what happened instead.
  • A screenshot, if there was anything on screen.

Do not send photographs of documents or anything else private as a way of showing a bug. We do not need them, and we would rather not have them.

Questions that come up

Do I need an account?

No. Starting a Home Record creates an identity on your phone with no email attached, and you can record as much as you like that way. The catch is that it lives on that phone only: it cannot be reached from another device, it cannot be shared with your household, and it is deleted after 30 days with no activity. Adding an email at any point keeps it and lifts all three limits.

Does it work without a signal?

Yes, for capture, which is the part that matters when you are standing in a basement. Photos and entries are held on the phone and sync when you have a connection again. Things that need the network, such as reading a label, finding a manual, or inviting someone, wait until you are back online and say so rather than failing quietly.

What happens to a photo of a label?

When you use Scan Label, that one photo goes to an AI provider to be read, and it comes back as a proposed brand, model and serial number. Nothing is added to your record until you confirm it, and anything the reader was unsure about is marked so you can check it. No other photo leaves our own storage. The privacy policy sets this out in full.

The app could not find a manual for my appliance.

It searches the web for a PDF matching the brand and model, and checks each result before offering it, so a result you are shown is a real document rather than a link that might be one. Some models genuinely have no manual online, and some manufacturers put theirs behind a form the search cannot pass. Check that the model number is exactly as printed on the label, including letters and dashes, and try again. If it still finds nothing, you can add the PDF yourself as a document on the item.

How do I get my data out?

More, then Home Record. You can create a PDF of the whole record, an archive containing every photo and document, or a data file. Each download link works for 30 days. You do not need to be leaving to use it; people export before a sale, for an insurance claim, or to hand to whoever buys the house.

How does sharing with my household work?

More, then Household, then invite by email. A member can add and edit; a viewer can only read. The owner can change a role or remove someone at any time, and anyone except the last owner can leave. Everyone sees the same record of the same home, so a filter size entered by one person is there for the other.

Why did a reminder not arrive?

Reminders are sent at 7:00 in your home's time zone, which is set on the home and not on your phone, so a home in a different zone from you follows the home. Check that notifications are on in More, then Notifications and calendar, and that the app is allowed to notify you in your phone's own settings. Notifications only reach the installed app; the website cannot send them.

How do I delete everything?

More, then Settings, then Delete my account. The account deletion page describes exactly what goes, what is kept and for how long, and what to do if you cannot get into the app.

Reporting something security related

If you think you have found a way to see another household's data, or anything else security related, write to home@tenonfold.com with "security" in the subject and we will treat it as the first thing of the day. Please do not post it publicly before we have had a chance to fix it.
