Terms of use

Tenonfold is a brand of Design Matrix Studio LLC, a New York limited liability company. "We" and "us" below mean that company. Using this site or a Tenonfold product means these terms apply.

What is sold here

Tenonfold sells digital files, currently printable PDFs. Nothing is shipped and nothing physical is sent.

Sales are handled by Gumroad. Every buy and download button on this site leads there, and the purchase itself is subject to Gumroad's terms alongside these. Where the two genuinely conflict on something about the transaction, Gumroad's terms govern the transaction and these terms govern the file.

What you may do with the file

Buying or downloading gives you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the file. In plain terms:

You may print it as many times as you like for your own use, fill it in, cut it up, mark it up, and use it on your own projects, including work you are doing for yourself or for a client.

You may not resell it, give the file away, upload it anywhere others can get it, include it in a paid or free bundle, or sell something you made by editing it. Sending a copy to a friend who should buy their own is the one everybody does and it is the one that matters most: these are cheap on purpose so that sharing is unnecessary.

Copyright in the files, the drawings, the wordmark and everything written on this site stays with us.

What the numbers in a Tenonfold product are

This matters more than the rest of this page, so it is written plainly.

Tenonfold products contain general guidance for planning a room. The clearances in them are drawn from published planning practice and are stated as what usually works, not as rules you must follow. They are not a code compliance check, not an accessibility assessment, not construction documents, and not professional design or engineering advice for your specific building.

A recommendation and a requirement are different kinds of number and our products say which is which where it is known. Anything binding on your project — building codes, accessibility standards, planning permission, a landlord, a co-op board, a homeowners association — is set by someone else, applies to your particular situation, and has to be checked against the actual rules where you are.

Where work needs a licensed professional, use one. Tenonfold is not an architecture practice and these products do not substitute for a designer, architect, engineer or contractor looking at your building.

A scaled grid only stays true if it is printed at 100 percent, actual size. Print scaling silently breaks the scale, so check it before drawing on it. Every product that has a grid says so on the page.

Refunds

Thirty-day money back guarantee. If a product is not what you wanted, ask within thirty days of buying it and you get your money back. No reason is required and you do not have to argue for it.

The quickest route is the refund link in your Gumroad receipt. Email hello@tenonfold.com if that gives you any trouble and we will sort it out. Refunds are issued through Gumroad to the original payment method.

Free products cost nothing, so there is nothing to refund. Delete the file and unsubscribe.

If something is wrong with a file

Tell us. If a download is broken, incomplete or wrong, we would rather fix it than refund it, and a corrected file goes to everyone who has bought it. Products are otherwise provided as they are, without a promise that they will suit a particular room or a particular plan.

Nothing here limits any right you have under consumer law that cannot be limited by agreement. Otherwise, and to the extent the law allows, our total liability in connection with a product is limited to what you paid for it, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including money spent on furniture, materials or building work.

The Fold

Articles on this site are written to be useful and are checked before publishing, including the sources behind any figure they state. They are still editorial rather than advice about your building, and the paragraphs above about codes and licensed professionals apply to them too.

Photographs illustrating articles are generated images used to depict a building type, and are reviewed for accuracy against what the article says before they are published. They are not photographs of a specific real building unless the article says so.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York.

Changes

Any change to this page changes the date at the top of it. A change applies from the day it is posted and does not alter the terms that applied to something you already bought.
